Texture Tuesday...Minus 43 Edition..

It's Texture Tuesday time again.
Where did last week go?

Kim has asked us this week to use one of her new, wonderful textures...
Minus 43.

Last September, we took a trip to the
Grand Canyon.
It's an amazing place.

One of the have-to-see places is the
Desert View Watchtower.
Designed by Mary Colter, and built in the 1930s, it was patterned after
the buildings of early Native Americans.

You get a great view of the canyon and the painted desert, off to the east.

I used two layers of Kim's texture...one on multiply and one on vivid light.

Sunday Drive.....

We had a busy day yesterday...birthday lunches, visiting.
But, when things settled down, we decided to take a little drive, and look for barns.

Here, in Central Texas, we don't have harsh winters.
We get a quick cold front, that will zap our plants.
Then, it moves on and the weather is pretty mild.
Yesterday was almost hot.

So, most of the 'barns' around here are more lean-to type shelters.

More to keep feed and equipment sheltered, than for the livestock.

We tend to wear our patriotism....and, sometimes our politics...on our sleeve.

There's also this old Chevy truck, just sitting there decorating the place.

I think this one still works.  The tires don't look too bad.

This barn, and the truck sit beside a road we use quite often.
I've been meaning to stop for a photo for a long time.
Finally made myself do it.

Glad I did.

I'm linking up with Trisha at

Go visit and see lots of great barns.

Photo Art Friday....Hardware...

This week on
Photo Art Friday,
Bonnie's challenge word is 'Hardware'.

I recently received a new laptop.

Photo Art Friday.  PDPA texture 'Brown Rice Paper'

I'd say it has some 'Hardware'.....and, I installed in some software, as well.

I have to say, I'm not really crazy about the new Windows 8.
It seems to be less efficient.  To me, anyway.
'New and improved' should be IMPROVED.
Don't you think?

But.....I am learning.

Be sure to click on the link, and go see more photo art.

Thanks, Bonnie, for the great textures.

Texture Tuesday....Free & Easy...

This week, for Texture Tuesday,
we can use any photo, with at least one layer of one of Kim's great textures.

If you saw my last post, you had to know I'd have to do something with that terrific old rusty truck.

I edited in Photoscape, and added a watercolor pencil filter.
Then, over to PSE and added a layer of Kim's 'Be Still' texture.

I'm not sure what setting or what opacity.
I forgot to write that down.

Aren't old trucks and old buildings great for texture work?
The texture adds more grunginess (is that a word?) and interest.

Barn Charm....The First....

I've been 'lurking' over at
Bluff Area Daily
for Trisha's Barn Charm.
This week...I decided to join in.

The first week in December, we went to Kansas to visit our daughter.
Both grandkids at that house, have a birthday the same week.

Right on the highway to their town, we passed this farm.
There are LOTS of farms up there.

There was a reason to stop and take a photo.
TWO old gray barns.  AND, a great old truck.

The day was gray and chilly.  So, the photos came out that way, too.

And, I could be wrong.  But, I don't think they use this truck much.

Thanks for letting me play along on Barn Charm.

Be sure to visit Trisha at

to see more charming barns.

2012 Review....Some Favorites...

Recently, over at my main blog,
I joined some of my favorite garden bloggers,
who were reviewing some of their favorite photos from
2012.

Les, at A Tidewater Gardener, started this meme last year.

Since this is my 'Photo Blog', I'm reviewing them here, too.
I'm going to try to focus more on my photography this year.  We'll see how that works out.

I have to say....it's hard picking favorites.  I took a LOT of photos last year.
A good many didn't get published.

So...I picked a dozen of my favorite ones that were published.
I liked three of these enough to put them in the new Patchwork Garden header.

Water over the low water crossing @ Cypress Creek, close to our house.

Wine corks, used as mulch.

The birdbath in the redone Island Bed.

We did some travel this year.  Some I've posted about, some I haven't, yet.
Joshua Tree National Park was one of my favorites.

I have a lot of photos of the ever present deer.  This was one of my favorites.

We have this Axis Deer doe in the neighborhood.
Mr P saw a buck crossing the road once.  But, that was about five miles away.
They're pretty. But, research tells me they eat EVERYTHING!  Even more than our resident deer.

I picked out a couple favorite Bloomday photos

 Mexican Flame Vine

Hyacinth Bean.

And, birds.

Chickadee

We finally found the right tomatoes.  I was pleased with the good harvests I got....

And, last, but not least...this beautiful sky.
We get some wonderful morning light, around here.

So, there you have a few of my favorites.  Hope you enjoyed the walk down memory land.
Do you have favorites?

Texture Tuesday...A Cuppa...

Texture Tuesday is back.

Kim challenged us to submit a photo of a favorite cup, edited with one of her textures.

It's cold and cloudy, here in Central Texas.
Well....cold for here.

A nice mug of hot coffee and a couple meringue cookies seemed just right.

I did a watercolor filter in PSE 9.
Then I added two layers of Kim's 'Reentry' and a layer of 'Burnt Edges'.

It's a little dark.  But, I think I like it.
